About Me

Choosing Healthier Food How long has it been since you ate a truly healthy meal? Although you might feel like you are a pretty healthy eater, it can surprise some people how many things they consume that aren't really that great for them. I began focusing more and more on choosing healthier food a few months back, and it was interesting to me to see how much better I felt simply by watching my intake. I wanted to start a great little blog all about being healthy and cooking in a way that lowers total calorie consumption, so I made this website. Check it out to improve your day!

If you're like many people, you enjoy a hot dog or two on an occasional basis but don't include them in your steady diet. After all, few things are better during an outdoor ball game than a nice, juicy hot dog washed down with a cold beer or a tall glass of iced tea. You might also serve them yourself during backyard barbecues and roast them over a campfire while enjoying a wilderness adventure.  But what do you do with leftover hot dog buns? They always seem to be a part of the picture when hot dogs are on the menu, and most people simply end up tossing them. However, that's not necessary -- there are plenty of ways that leftover hot dog buns can be used. The following are just five of them.

Cheesy Garlic Bread

Hot dog buns have a fluffy, porous texture that absorbs flavors extremely well, making them a great choice for when the mood calls for cheesy garlic bread. Simply spread butter on the buns, sprinkle them with your favorite shredded cheese, add garlic powder to taste, and place them in your toaster oven until the buns begin to turn golden brown and the cheese begins to bubble. These make great snacks and can also be served in place of regular garlic bread with spaghetti and other pasta dishes.

Mini Pizza

You've undoubtedly heard of French bread pizza -- hot dog bun pizza is prepared the same way. Slather on your favorite pizza sauce and your choice of toppings and place them in the toaster oven. This makes a great after-school snack because most kids can prepare it themselves

Mini Subs

Use cold cuts, sliced cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and any other ingredients you like to create customized mini sub sandwiches. These work well for lunches and quick after school snacks.

Cheesecake Roll-Ups

Leftover hot dog buns can also be used to create a quick, simple dessert. Flatten the bun and spread sweetened cream cheese on them, and if you like, add a layer of your favorite jam before rolling them up. You can also dress them up with a bit of frosting and some multicolored candy sprinkles.

Homemade Bread Crumbs

You can also use hot dog buns to make your own bread crumbs to use as a coating for pan-fried fish, pork cutlets, or fried chicken. Toast the buns until they're nice and brown -- but not burned -- and crumble them into fine pieces after they've cooled down, and store them in an airtight container until you need to use them.
